Out of the box it is a library manager, downloader and reader. It does not include, host or bundle any scraper for a manga or anime site, and it is not affiliated with any of them.
Online sources come from source packs — separate, third-party plug-in
files you can import yourself from Settings → Library. They load on the
next restart. Sentrychan neither distributes nor links to them.
Everything else works without any of that: your existing files, your own folders of chapter images, RSS feeds you add, MyAnimeList import, the reader and the quiz.
Sentrychan is a general-purpose tool. It connects to nothing on its own: every feed it reads and every source it can reach is one you configured. It is built for organising a library you are entitled to hold — your own rips, public domain and Creative Commons works, freely distributed releases, and anything you have permission to download.
It is not intended for copyright infringement, and using it that way is neither supported nor endorsed. What you point it at, and whether that is lawful where you live, is your responsibility.

Open the Library, click Add Series, search for a show and pick it. Sentrychan grabs the poster and starts tracking it. Already on MyAnimeList? Import your whole watching list from Settings.
In Settings → General, set a download folder and a library folder. Finished downloads move from one to the other, renamed and filed into Show / Season folders on the way.
Matches from your feeds are detected and fetched automatically. Turn on auto-download to skip even the confirmation, or review and confirm each one yourself.
Fill an entire season in one pass, let Sentrychan spot which episodes are missing from a series you already own and fetch only those, or use the Unmatched Files screen to place anything the matcher couldn't identify.
Switch to Manga or Novels, add a series and read chapters in-app — paged or webtoon — or download them for offline. Point it at a local folder to read what you already have.
The Downloads page gives you pause, resume, speed limits and a queue. Right-click any download to open its folder or copy the link.

One download, no account, no .NET to install — everything's bundled, and it updates itself from then on.
Sentrychan is a small free app from an independent developer, so it isn't code-signed yet. Windows SmartScreen may show a blue “Windows protected your PC” screen on the first launch.
That's expected. Click More info → Run anyway. The warning
fades as more people install it.
The anime side is the mature half of Sentrychan. Manga and novel support — the library, the reader, offline downloads and progress tracking — works, but it is newer and rougher, and odd chapter numbering or an unusual source layout can still trip it up.
Feedback on it is genuinely wanted. Tell me what broke, on GitHub issues or Discord, and include the series and source if you can — that's usually enough to reproduce it.
No — and today there is nothing to sign up for. Everything Sentrychan currently does runs entirely on your own machine and never talks to a server of ours: library, downloads, monitoring, the reader, the quiz.
The account-backed features are the ones listed under On the way, and they aren't in the app yet. When they arrive they'll be opt-in, and you'll be able to run them against your own Supabase project instead if you'd rather.
Features that are being built but aren't in the app yet. They need a hosted backend to run, so they'll arrive as supporter features — everything above stays free. What that funds is spelled out below.
Watch together in a shared room and stay in sync with friends, without anyone having to pass files around. Each room runs on a hosted machine, which is what makes this the one feature that genuinely costs money per hour of use.

The app is free and stays free. Some things genuinely cost money to run every month, though, and this is what support would pay for — stated plainly so you can judge whether it's worth it.
The blue “Windows protected your PC” warning on first launch exists because signing certificates cost a few hundred a year. This is the first thing support would buy, and it helps everyone who installs Sentrychan — supporter or not.

It's not like I'm building this for you or anything… b-baka.
No strings attachedBeing straight about this: it is not all infrastructure. Part of every contribution goes to me, the developer, as payment for my time. Sentrychan is built by one person in evenings and weekends, and a project that pays for some of those evenings is a project that is still here in two years. I would rather say that plainly than dress it up as server costs.
The rest is the real bills: a code-signing certificate, hosted rooms for watch parties, and the database behind sync and alerts.
The app itself will never be for sale. Not a trial, not a licence, not a paywalled build. Supporting Sentrychan will never get you more sources, faster downloads, or any advantage in finding or fetching content — none of that is a product here and none of it ever will be. The downloader, the library, the reader and the quiz are finished, free, and stay that way for everyone, forever.
And if you would rather not fund the hosting at all, run it yourself: point the app
at your own Supabase project, apply
schema.sql from the repository, and the same features work against your
own backend for nothing. That escape hatch is deliberate and will not be closed.
Sentrychan is built in the open by one person, under the AGPL-3.0. Read the code, file an issue, or build it yourself.
